Plant Parasites of Europe

leafminers, galls and fungi

Puccinia oerteliana

Puccinia oerteliana Tranzschel, 1923

on Geranium

no host plant alternation known, only spermogonia and aecia. Spermogonia very rarely formed, amphigenous. Aecia hypophyllous on large, red, galled spots; they are sunken in the leaf tissue, with a small opening; the peridium is stellate, soon falling off.

Geraniaceae, narrowly monophagous

Geranium sanguineum.

Aecidium tranzschelianum Lindroth, 1901.

because the aecia show a strong resemblance with the ones of Puccinia stipina, a species forming aecia on various Lamiaceae, and telia on Stipa, one supposes that oerteliana likewise forms telia on Stipa.
