uredinia hypophyllous, light brown, on yellow spots. Urediniospores with 3(4) equatorial pores, each covered by a clear papilla, wall thickness 1-2µm. Telia blackish brown. Teliospores 2-celled, almost without constriction clavate, narrowing into the pedicel; wall smooth, apical part of top cell moderately thickened; pedicel hyaline, up to half as long as the spore.

many authors, and also the Index Fungorum (2016) consider ribis-nigri-paniculatae conspecific with, or at best a variety of, P. caricina.
