No host plant alternation; only uredinia and telia, both hypophyllous, also on the leaf sheaths, cinnamon coloured and almost black, respectively. Urediniospores spinulose, 17-22 x 23-27 µm, with 4-6 rather a large germination pores. Teliospores 2-celled, 17-26 x 35-46 µm, wall smooth, apically thickened to 10 µm.
