No host plant alternation, only telia. The mycelium is systemic; infected plants are pale; the plants get an abnormal aspect. Telia mostly hypophyllous, brown, pulverulent. Spores on a short deciduous pedicel; most are two-celled, but one-celled spores are not at all rare.
