No host plant alternation known; in Europe only uredinia, elsewhere also telia. Uredinia yellowish brown, amphigenous, up to 1 cm long; spores with (2)3(4) equatorial germination pores. Telia blackish brown, amphigenous, long covered by the epidermis; spores one-celled, smooth, 18-21 x 27-35 µm.
