Uredinia amphigenous, yellowish brown, without paraphyses (rarely thin-walled ones); spores finely spinulose, with 4-9 dispersed pores, that often have a thickened rim. Telia hypophyllous, long covered by the epidermis, shining brown; they are surrounded and divided in compartments by brown paraphyses. Teliospores initially formed in the uredinia, later in the newly formed telia; they are one-celled, pyriform, with a smooth, apically somewhat thickened wall; pedicel at least as long as the spore.
