No host plant alternation. Spermogonia and aecia hypophyllous, also on the stems. Aecia cupulate, with a white, outwards curved, peridium, divided into segments; spore mass yellow.
Uredinia hypophyllous, very small, soon naked, cinnamon-coloured; spores 20-25 x 20-28 µm, remotely spinulose, with 3-6 randomly distributed pores. Telia similar, dark brown; spores 14-20 x 15-25 µm, one-celled, coarsely verrucose; top with a low hyaline papilla; pedicel hyaline, deciduous, short.
