the entire, strongly contracted, inflorescence is modified into a powdery, pale yellowish-brown mass of spore balls. Because it remains enclosed by the lower bracts the whole looks like a swollen terminal bud. The spore balls, that very easily disintegrate, consist of some tens of verrucose spores.
