Sori in leaves and leaf sheaths between the veins, as streaks, sometimes confluent, initially covered by the epidermis, rupturing longitudinally to expose a powdery, dark reddish brown mass of spore balls. Spore balls consist of 1-3 fertile spores, surrounded by a complete layer of ± hyaline sterile cells.
