lead-coloured, blister-like swellings of the leaves and petioles that, upon rupturing, release a blackish-brown mass of granular-powdery mass of spore balls. The spore balls consist of 1-10 spores surrounded by a mantle of smaller sterile cells. If there is but one spore, then the mantle is complete, otherwise it is incomplete.
