gall
up to several cm large, greyish-brown, blister-like swellings on the (often disfigured) leaves, petioles and stems that, upon rupturing, release a black, powdery-granular mass of spore balls. The spore balls consist of 1-3 spores, surrounded by a limited number of sterile cells.
