the contents of the ultimately rupturing utriculi is transformed into a hard, black body consisting of agglutinated spores, that eventually disintegrates into small pieces. The spores, 15-22 µm long, are decorated with stout, up to 2 µm long, apically flattened spines that are widely placed and easily broken.

Occasionally also distans. C. riparia and vesicaria are the main host plants.
