Dark brown sori on the stems, sometimes covering the entire stem from one internodium to the other (then resembling a slender Typha inflorescence, writes Buhr). Initially covered by the epidermis of the host plant. Spores 7-10 x 8-11 μ; they are finely echinulate, but that is not visible with the light microscope.
