Phytomyza fulgens Hendel, 1920
Clematis vitalba, Belgium, Viroinval
mine in detail
another mine
mine
Corridor mine; the corridor begins with a lower-surface spiral or patch. The upper-surface corridor that follows has very irregular sides, and frass in long pearl chains. Pupation outside the mine.
hostplants
Ranunculaceae, monophagous
Clematis flammula, recta, vitalba.
phenology
According to Hering (1957a) mines are found between October and December, but in 1955(a) he mentions larval material from end May. Robbins (1995a) states that in the UK the species has a generation in summer and another one in late autumn. The mines that I myself found in the south of Belgium end September were vacated, only one still containing a dead larva.
BENELUX
BE recorded (Ellis: Viroinval).
NE not recorded (Fauna Europaea, 2008).
LUX not recorded (Fauna Europaea, 2008).
distribution within Europe
UK, Germany, Austria (Fauna Europaea, 2008); also Slovenia (Maček, 1999a). A picture of the mine of “Phytomyza vitalbae” in Popescu-Gorj & Drăghia (1966a) from Roumania probably refers to fulgens.
