Blood red, quite slender larvae develop in the xylem vessels, when they have become accessible for oviposition, most often by a saw cut. In the forest it is possible to find ovipositing females in a circle on a freshly cut oak stump. In the larvae the lobes ay the tip of the spatula are distinctly wider than long.
