The young larvae are transparant-yellow; later they become light green with light brown antennae, legs, and wing pads. The produce conspicuous long threads of honeydew, contained in tubes of white wax. Multivoltine; hibernation as orange-yellow eggs on the host plant.

Originally a Japanese species, but since about 1980 dispersed over all regions where the host plant is cultivated as an ornamental.
