Oviposition at the upper surface of the leaf. The mine is a very densely contorted corridor that widens quickly. The black frass lies in a broad band. In shadow leaves the mine ends in a secondary blotch, and the frass leaves broad transparant seams at either side. In the thicker leaves that are sun-exposed the mine is much shorter and more compact, and the frass completely fills the corridor.
